I already spoke out on this topic but two things sparked my interest in talking about this again. One was watching a few worst of the year list so I started racking my brain for albums I like. I only managed to come up with 5 which were Melophobia- Cage The Elephant, Megalithic Symphony- AWOLNATION(*edit:I'm stupid Megalithic Symphony didn't come out this year.), The Heist- Macklemore, The Marshal Mathers LP 2- Eminem, and Haunted House- Knife Party. This wasn't an awful year for music, but it was a BORING year. This year the music industry decided that country music was just pop music with the occasional twangy guitar, and they decided that WGWAG songs are good(WGWAG=White Guy With Acoustic Guitar). Bands like Florida Georgia Line and Passenger are becoming big hits while people like Lupe Fiasco are being ignored.

Speaking of Lupe Fiasco the other thing that made me want to do this rant is that my friend compared Lupe Fiasco to Lil' Wayne, and when I justifiably got angry at him he told me that I shouldn't focus on lyrics so much. I told him that lyrics are important in music because without good lyrics it's just completely mindless, and he brought up Seven Nation Army(my favorite song ever)saying that it didn't have good lyrics (which I disagree with). I may have worded that wrong, what I meant is that RAP MUSIC needs good lyrics. The whole idea of rap is that it's, in a way poetry set to a beat. Going back to Lupe Fiasco his lyrics are incredible. If you listen to any interviews with him he's a really intelligent guy, and he has many interesting political opinions. His album Food and Liquor 2: The Great American Rap Album Vol. 1 (that's the actual name of the album!) he voices a lot of opinions on current politics and past and current racism. He even has a song called Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free) which was about the plight of Native Americans when the Christopher Columbus landed. Another rapper with amazing lyrical ability is Eminem. His lyrics aren't as insightful as Lupe Fiasco, but he's a great wordsmith. His lyrics are hilarious, and he's great with metaphors and hyperboles. Speaking of my friend also said that Eminem's lyrics don't make sense which is just.......you know what I don't even want to get into it because I've already written quite a bit and it's late, so just know I think my friend is a moron and hope that he reads this and feels bad because he's bad.....at life.

As I said in my last rant-ish there are still some pinpricks of light at the end of the dark tunnel if mediocrity that is popular music, but I wish that things would get better. I love music, but there like all good things the stupid, bad things are the most popular.

Examples:

This is an incredibly popular movie franchise. (And a massive guilty pleasure for me.)

This is considered high art. I think that I made something like this in 3rd grade.

The release of this was a massive pop culture event.

And THIS....THING is considered a credible musician.

See it isn't all that different is it? Wow I just made myself really sad. Just remember for every Transformers there's a 50/50, for every modern art "masterpiece" there's a Mona Lisa, for every Call of Duty there's a Thomas Was Alone, and for every Miley Cyrus there's a Jack White. I feel a bit better now (and I hope you do too(unless you like Miley Cyrus(if you do GET OUT!!!(just kidding( please stay(wow I'm using lots of parentheses(I should stop( I will(right now(stopping(right now (stopping (now)))))))))))))(Stopped)

Two in one week. Mind. Blown.(You're impressed too easily.)

Oh YouTube why do you always have to go and mess it up. The new YouTube comment section is just horrible. They have decided to give the people filling the most hateful cesspool on the Internet the ability to post links and no character limit. This was a
HORRIBLE IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have managed to make the comment section even worse because now people can put up links to either viruses or if you're really unlucky some of the most disgusting things you will ever see in your life. Another horribly stupid thing they're doing is making it so you need a Google+ account to actually comment. My favorite Youtuber Nerdcubed(awesome, awesome) did a rant on this and he had the best picture up throughout the rant that perfectly sums this up. It was just the YouTube logo slowly becoming the Google+ logo. I say all YouTubers that are good should move to Blip.TV when YouTube implodes and becomes Google+2(Electric Boogaloo) so they don't lose all their money and die.....of lack of money....because that's a thing. If you can't tell why not having a character limit is a very bad thing here is what I've been seeing on every video I go to since the comment section was.......obliterated.

Adding an antique filter to illustrate how horrible this is

Etc. for like ten more screenshots

Go home YouTube you're drunk.  Get some sleep and fix yourself tomorrow.(Check out the video "My thoughts on Google+" on YouTube(soon to be Google+.) the channel is EmmaBlackery she is awesome and the song she wrote fits how I feel about this perfectly(avoid if you don't like lots and lots of cursing))

I try to make the way that I speak and write interesting by using strange words (like pneumonoultramicrospicsilicovolcanoconiosis(I never use that word it's just fun to write)) because I don't want to turn into modern writers who say things like LOL and ROFL or worst of all YOLO(die in a fire). In school I have heard people say that the don't know how to spell definitely or absolutely and it makes me so sad. in all of my texts I try to spell all my words out fully so that I don't get used to abbreviating things(seriously YOLOers go away).

Another depressing story that I heard recently was that there is a new definition for literally(I heard this story from the Youtuber Adoseofbuckley(he is awesome)). The first meaning is "in a literal sense or manner" which is the correct way but there is a new meaning of the word which is in "in effect". Not only stupid people are doing this either, the Merriam-Webster(c) dictionary has accepted this definition too. The English language is being literally butchered and we need to stop it. Stop saying YOLO and start saying absolutely or awesomtacular(JeremyJahns made it a thing(it's better than YOLO(a lot better))) and also start texting like a normal person instead of being lazy and abbreviating everything. May the force(of words) be with you...... That was horrible I'm sorry. let's try a better one.....ahem a YOLOer once tried to speak to me I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Bit better.(still need to watch that movie.)

(Before I start this I will admit that there is good music on the radio. Imagine Dragons,AWOLNATION, and Macklemore have all managed to find success but bands like them are few and far between. Now onto the rant.)

Music today is way too processed and it is completely copy and paste with its themes. There are songs that try to shake this like royals by Lorde, that song is about making fun of people who say they live like that but most people will probably think that she is being serious about it and is bragging about living that way. Another thing is that being popular tends to ruin bands, not always I'm not that much of a hipster but one of my favorite bands Grouplove was completely ruined by fame. They had great songs like Chloe, Lovely Cup, and Itchin' on a Photograph but their most famous song was tongue tied which in my opinion was also their worst song, but because it was so popular their second studio album sounded entirely like that one song. What people should do is go out of their comfort zone and try listening to alternative, or rock, or electronic. If anyone is actually reading this (which I doubt) go and check out two bands, Cage the Elephant, and Sleeper agent. They are two very very good alternative rock bands that you won't regret listening to. I don't hate popular music altogether but it is terrible that people like Miley Cyrus, and Ke$ha are being listened to more than Jack White, or Avenged Sevenfold. So go and check out those two bands. If you like them tell your friends about them and maybe we can get them a few new diehard fans.
